Luxemburg achieves Europe`s highest retail sales per capita

With around 500 000 inhabitants and around 9 000 euro Luxemburg achieves Europe`s highest retail sales per capita. Other high-ranked countries with a small number of inhabitants but a high purchasing power level include Switzerland, Norway, Denmark and Austria.
Thus the retail sales per capita in Switzerland, Norway and Denmark lies at around 7 000 euro. Austria occupies fifth place with around 6 700 euro per capita. Among the densely populated countries in Europe France achieves the highest retail sales per capita. With around 6 000 euro per capita the retail sales in France are higher than in Great Britain (approx. 5 200 euro), Germany (approx. 4 700 euro) or Italy (approx. 4 400 euro) and Spain (approx. 4 100 euro). Although Russia is Europe`s largest country with more than 140 millions inhabitants, the retail sales volume per capita is only around 1 400 euro.
Ukraine has nearly as much inhabitants as Spain (around 45 millions) but nevertheless achieves only about 12% of Spain`s total retail sales volume. The countries Portugal, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Hungary also show big differences even if they count each around 10 millions inhabitants. Whilst in the Czech Republic the total retails sales volume achieves around 25 billions and in Hungary about 20 billions, the total retail sales lie in Portugal at 40 billions and in Belgium at more than 60 billions.
