London: High Purchasing Power And High Costs = Still Rich?

With an average purchasing power of 24 000 euro per year per capita at disposal, London is on of the wealthiest capital cities in Europe. In the Inner City the purchasing power is even higher with about 52.000 Euro per capita.

Even capital cities with a high prosperity level in Europe like Stockholm, Helsinki or Vienna have a purchasing power level lower than London`s. An inhabitant of of Stockholm has about 21 300 Euro, a person in Helsinki about 19 700 Euro purchasing power per year. A Viennese has an average purchasing power of about 18 600 Euro per year, in the first district - like in London - the level is much higher with about 36.000 Euro.

When comparing purchasing power one should keep the different local prices in mind. London is amongst the 20 most expensive cities in the world, especially when taking rental levels into account. Also the prices for public transport and services are significantly higher than in other European cities.

Tourists will have an eye on the relatively high costs for overnight stays. A cheap trip to London therefore depends primarily on favourable exchange rates.
