Eastern European tourists love Austria

More than 2,5 million tourists from Eastern Europe and the CIS region visited Austria during the winter season 2008/2009 and the summer season 2009. This represents about 12% of the total number of international tourists in Austria for the mentioned period. Upward tendency.

From all Eastern Europea people the Czech seem to like Austria the most. About 560 000 Czech tourists came to visit Austria`s mountains, lakes and cities. In this ranking Hungarians are on the second position with more than 430 000 arrivals, followed by the Polish with more than 300 000 arrivals. Russian tourists in Austria rank on the fifth place with 230 000 arrivals after Romania with 280 000 arrivals.

During the winter season the average duration of stay is longer than in the summer season. A Lithuanian in his winter holiday in Austria stayed about 5 nights compared to 2 nights in his summer vacation. In winter a Bulgarian spent about 3 nights, in summer about 2 nights in Austria.

Most beloved destinations for tourists in Austria are Tyrol, Vienna and Salzburg. Germans are the largest tourist group in Austria, more than 10,6 million Germans spent their holidays in Austria in the above mentioned period 2008-2009.
