Austria`s Shopping Centres became larger

Austria`s shopping centres become larger and larger. The average selling floorspace area of an Austrian shopping centre was about 14 000 sqm in 2001. In 2009 this value increased to about 18 000 sqm.
For this calculation we considered the 100 largest shopping centres of the respective year. When comparing Austria`s counties one can see that the average floorspace area grew especially in Styria at about 20 000 sqm, in Carinthia at about 15 000 sqm and in Burgenland at about 20 000 sqm.
In the period 2001-2009 Styria faced the opening of some of the largest shopping centres in Austria: Shopping City Seiersberg (Graz) in 2003 as well as its enlargement in 2008 with a total area of 76 000 sqm in the moment; Leoben City Shopping in 2007 with 19 000 sqm; the shopping centre Weinland (Leibnitz) with more than 10 000 sqm; Shopping Nord (Graz) with about 17 000 sqm in 2008.
The largest shopping centres opened in the past years in Carinthia were Atrio in Villach with more than 35 000 sqm (2005) and City Arkaden in Klagenfurt with about 30 000 sqm (2006). In Burgenland the shopping centre Oberwart (EO) delivered about 20 000 sqm to the market.
