Top Tenants in Austria`s Shopping Centers

The top tenants in Austria`s 100 largest shopping centers are retailers from the furniture, food, sporting and electronical goods sector. With their large rented areas they take the lion`s share of shopping center`s branch mix.

Among the largest tenants in 2009 were companies like Ikea, XXXLutz, Leiner, Interspar, Eybl Megastore oder Media Markt. With more than 18 000 sqm is Ikea Vösendorf (Shopping City Süd, south of Vienna) the largest tenant in Austria`s shopping centers, closely followed by XXXLutz in Floridsdorf (Vienna).

When looking at the branch mix in annual comparison it is obvious that the proportion of spaces rented by tenants in the fashion, beauty and health sector is increasing. While in 2005 clothing, shoe, toys & sports retailers, drugstores and perfumeries as well as the jewellery sector disposed of about 660 000 sqm in shopping centers in 2009 this space increased up to 860 000 sqm.

Repeatedly also large vacant spaces can be found among the top 10 tenants in Austria`s shopping centers. Vacant spaces right up to 13 000 sqm were not only in centers, which in the meantime had to close (like Airport Center in Salzburg or Leoville Premium Outlet in Leobersdorf) but also in established shopping centers like Shoppingcity Seiersberg or Center West in Graz.
